Aerial Classes

The aims of the Aerial classes are to provide all learners with the knowledge and skills to enable them to partake in fitness aerial sessions safely.

All exercises are designed to enable learners to experience different levels of intensity and duration of activities. As with all exercise, aerial sessions carry an element of risk. Therefore, it is important that you understand you may experience some bruising or burn and feel slightly achy for the days following the aerial fitness class. Using precautionary techniques such as proper warm ups and cool downs, we aim to minimise those risks and with continued practice your body will become conditioned to the movements involved. If while practicing the practical elements of the course, you feel excessive pain or discomfort, please stop doing the activity concerned and notify your instructor immediately. Please ensure that you do not use the equipment without the instructor present and available to spot you.

All Classes

Please notify your class instructor if you have sustained any injuries, illnesses or medical conditions or if you feel there are parts of the practical training elements you are unable to take part in – participation is completely voluntary. All information given to your instructor is completely private and confidential under data protection legislation. Please ask as many questions as possible during your class.

By participating in these classes, or allowing your child to do so, you acknowledge and understand the nature of physical activities, you understand accidents and/or physical injury may occur. You agree to participate at your own risk. You agree to release and hold harmless All Parties Involved Including Mermaid Aerial Arts, Mermaid Dance & Aerial Arts Studio, including any and all staff members from any cause of action, claims, or demands now and in the future. You will not hold Mermaid Aerial Arts or Mermaid Centre for Circus Arts as a whole or its staff liable for any personal injury, catastrophic injury or any personal property damage or loss, which may occur on the premises before, during or after classes.

You also acknowledge that, due to the nature of the activities in class, instructors may have to create physical contact with your child/yourself, for example when spotting a child/yourself in the air. This will always remain professional and will be used only when necessary.

Mermaid Aerial Arts reserves the right to substitute classes. In some rare occasions, where a qualified genre teacher is not available we will find a suitable, similar replacement to cover the class to the same high standard. Alternatively, if the studio needs to close for staffing, maintenance or other purposes - an alternative date will be provided. In this circumstances, no refunds are permitted.

In order to participate in classes, you must participate in the warm up and cool down. All jewellery is to be removed before participating. Failure to remove jewellery, especially earrings, will mean that the student cannot participate in the class. Appropriate clothing must be worn, i.e. tight fitting clothing, covering the skin - so no shorts or crop tops. Mermaid Centre for Circus Arts reserves the right to refuse service to students not following these rules, due to potential risk to the student and damage to the equipment. In these circumstances, no refunds will be permitted.

It is the parents responsibility to ensure the student is dropped off and picked up, from the reception, safely. Please ensure you arrive 5 minutes before your class and do not leave until you have seen the teacher. If any part of the warm up is missed, due to lateness, the student will not be allowed to participate in the class, due to risk of injury. It is your job to ensure that you arrive in time, prepared for the class. If you chose to let your child meet you outside, or run late, it is your responsibility to ensure your child stays at the studio until you have arrived.

Refunds

We have a no refunds policy. In extenuating circumstances, and at the sole discretion of the Director, class credit may be provided. If for any reason, a refund is given, banking charges will be deducted.

Cancelling Your Space

If you wish to cancel your space you must inform us, in writing, 30 days before the next payment is due. Cancellation is only accepted via the cancellation form, found on all our social media links, and via QR Codes in the studio.

Paying Fees

Payment is due on the 1st of each month and is does not change during half terms or Christmas and Easter breaks. Failure to pay fees will result in forfeiting of the space. If it is unavoidable please speak to staff before the payment is missed so that arrangements can be made. Your registration will not be complete until you have set up the direct debit. This may show as £0 due to the date you set it up, but please continue with the booking regardless.

Reminder:

Students are expected to arrive 5 minutes before the lessons start. If we arrive after the start of the class, you will not be able to participate in the class. As the weather gets colder, injuries are more likely and missing even part of warm up is too risky. Classes are 45minutes and to spend more than a 3rd of the class warming up due to lateness is unfair on the students that arrive on time.

Any contagious symptoms will not be allowed on the equipment. This includes verrucas, warts and coldsores. Verrucas can be covered with socks, but may limit the student in the skills they can safely perform. Plasters are unfortunately not a suitable barrier for warts. Coldsores are non-negotiable due to the risks posed to our students including blindness. Along the same lines, if a child's cough or cold is so bad that they can't participate in the warm up without coughing excessively, it is unsafe for them to participate in exercise - please stay at home to rest and get better.

Late or missed payments will face a £20 charge per student. Three months of late payments will result in membership to the studio being revoked.

Students not following the rules in the student handbook will face repercussions, as laid out in the handbook. Any student deemed unsafe will be removed from class and will not be allowed to return - please ensure your child has the capacity to safely attend the class. Finally, parents must be respectful at all times. Any disrespect to staff will result in immediate expulsion. If there are any concerns, these should be raised appropriately, with the Studio Director.
